Services such as Cloudflare and MaxCDN are great services and not only improves the speed of your website, but also helps protect and warn against attacks on your website. Cloudflare does have a “FREE” version, however we suggest paying the $20.00 per month (It’s worth it we promise).
These services work by distributing your content on more than just the server you always normally operated on. Look at it as having servers all over the country that can can deliver content at the same rate no matter where you are. Normally if you had a server based out of Atlanta, GA and someone was visiting your site in Palo Alto, CA, well the content without a CDN will take longer to reach the end user. If you have a CDN then you would have a server that could distribute that content closer to them. CDN’s also help with caching, firewalls, redirecting and much more! We highly recommend using one if you’re a small to mid sized company and have a decent amount of traffic to your website.
Server Technology
Technology over the past few years has changed with servers, such as software and hardware that is available to the average person now. Upgrading your server to more RAM and run Solid State Drives can help increase speed alone. Most people don’t know this and man SEO (Search Engine Optimization) companies don’t either! It’s crazy!
